BANDHAVGARH FOUNDATION

The keen interest of the Chairman Maharaja Pushpraj Singh towards the protection of wild life and environment, along with the welfare of the Tribal, lead to the formation of this rust in 1995/96. However, this Trust mainly focused on the problems of Tiger and its habitat with Bandhavgarh as its focal area. At that time there was a major threats on the Tiger in Bandhavgarh and with the poaching of world famous "Sita" the tigress that appeared on the front page of National Geography, things had even worsened. There was a potent threat of "mukti-sena" an off shot of Naxals making a dent and at all costs it needed to be defended. A rapport between foresters and villagers had to be struck. This Foundation thus became a link and affectively began its work with a dynamic working trustee, from Shahdol.

The hard work gave positive result and for the 1st time Bandhavgarh caught the eyes of agencies like WWF and Godrej Foundation. It received donation worth 1.3million, where wireless sets, jeeps, hand-sets, motorcycle and rain coats were provided to the department. Today it is on the Wild Life Board of India, haded by P.M.

The main objects of the Foundation were:



  1. To improve the tiger habitat.
  2. To stop tiger poaching by developing a network and communication between villegers and officials.
  3. To provide assistance in the rightful implementation of the policies of the government.
  4. To create public awareness in the local population and motivate them to save the tiger.
  5. To organise eye or health camps in the villages near the tiger reserve.
  6. To organise educational and vocational training camps for children and adults.
  7. To train, educate and motivate people for better job opportunities and self-employments.
  8. To conduct surveys, take field trips or participate in tiger senses or help during catastrophes like forest fire, floods or any other calamity.
  9. To develop awareness in school, college or youth for the projection of the tiger.
  10. To create national awareness by taking up issues of hygiene, nutrition, water or air pollution which can endanger the tiger land.
  11. To ensure that proper eco balance is maintained in sensitive tourist affected areas.

WORKS DONE BY THE TRUST



  1. Project under taken along with the WWF, where forest patrolling, awareness along with funding of jeeps, motorbikes, wireless sets, raincoats to beat guard was under taken (1995-1997). The project was of about 1 crore.
  2. Conducted Eye Camps in 1996/67. Over 100 Health Camps right from 1996 till 2003 have been undertaken in Bandhavgarh & Rewa.
  3. Conducted Awareness Rallies in about 20 villages, which are adjoining the Bandhavgarh Reserve in the last 8 years. Massive anti alcohol, gutkha and drugs drives and cattle protection rallies have been undertaken.
  4. Motivating against the possible threat of Naxalism has been a landmark in the brief history of the trust.
  5. Cattle inoculation camps have been undertaken in mainly Ranch, Gondi, Mala, Magdi & other villages. In Tala, Panpatha & Pataur villege developing village youth to work in tourist industry has also been undertaken.
  6. Collective Farming has been promoted to ensure villagers protection from wild animals like wild bore, deer & sambars.
  7. Funding schools for toilets or building has also been done, along with motivating tourist to donate for the right cause.

WORKS DONE BY THE TRUST



  1. To create public awareness in villager for better education, hygiene, water conservation & jobs.
  2. To provide support in near by schools for books, furniture or buildings & toilets.
  3. To create awareness in vegetable & mushroom farming.
  4. To develop dairy farming and bio gas units in villages.
  5. To intensify governmental policies & take up issues relating to the tiger ,its habitat and the people in the highest forum in the Govt. of India, Indian Wild Life Board.
  6. To attract attention of the people of the world in joining the campaign to save the tiger.


TEMPLE CONSERVATION & MANAGEMENT



The fort is one of its own kinds in lndia, having over 30 to 40 Temples all around, where worshiping is still done & many people from all over the vindhya region visit these Temples.
Under the chairman's able leadership the Trust has embarked. upon a policy followed by most of the famous religious Trust in lndia, where a proper system of giving donation is evolved & an audit maintained. The "Chadhava" which comes is used back in the development of these temples! the rituals are carried on by the Pujaris who are chosen on their merits.
Many of these Temples have very old stone carvings of the kalchuri& Baghel era and henceforth repairs have been carried out to attract tourists too! The old wooden rafters have been replaced or repaired the floor redone or broken slab-stone repaired.
The Trust proposes to put more attractive items for the tourist or the worshipers to take back as remembrance or as souvenirs.

WHITE TIGER CLUB



"The White Tiger Club" by Maharaja Pushpuraj Singh of REWA

Constituted with an idea to promote the following factors :

  1. To put all relevant information , resources and documents relating to the REWA White Tiger under one roof.
  2. To have a white tiger information/ resource center at Rewa.
  3. To create global awareness for the white tiger.
  4. To assist research words, film making or article writing on the animal and its origin. in addition to this it can as a global information center.
  5. To crate a general awareness about the eco system, tiger & its habitat.
  6. A place for likeminded people to meet and share their opinions.
  7. A hub of tourist who are keen to know the "GREAT CAPTURE OF MOHAN" the 1st white tiger in captivity and how the generation began.
  8. A center of information for children on tigers & its habitat.
  9. To create a place where educational, wildlife or adventure based tourist can come, gain information and relax
